We sat down with Teresa and asked her a few questions we thought our clients and partners would like to know:
Q: How did you get to where you are today in your career?
A: I’ve always loved working with numbers and figuring out problems. I was fortunate while in the military to be put on an assignment in the finance area. When I left the military, I got a job where the controller became my mentor and educated me in bookkeeping. From there, I took the course to educate myself. I stayed open to new projects wherever I worked and would learn hands-on. If there was something I didn’t know, I would find someone who did and ask for advice.
Q: What do you prefer to work on?
A: I enjoy accomplishing tasks and helping others, whether it’s my teammates or our customers.
Q: What’s the most unusual or interesting tech problem you’ve ever had to solve?
A: I once had a non-technical role answering phones. One day, a client called about the UPS battery beeping loudly in the background and insisted that I send someone immediately to stop it. In a moment of whimsy, I suggested that they simply unplug it, and surprisingly, they did. I’m not entirely sure if that was the correct solution, though.
Q: What’s the most unexpected thing you’ve learned while working in IT?
A: Treat each issue the same, no matter how big or small, and you will have a happy customer.
Q: How do you stay updated with the ever-evolving technology landscape?
A: I rely on the expertise of my colleagues to ensure that I am well-informed and up-to-date.
Q: What is your favorite tech tool or trend you’d recommend to everyone?
A: I prefer to rely on the expertise of others to guide my decision-making process rather than offering my recommendations.
Q: What’s your go-to tech gadget or app that you can’t live without?
A: Apple Watch – if this dies on me during the day, I am lost.
Q: What’s your approach when advising clients on technological solutions?
A: I recommend deferring to our team of talented experts rather than providing advice on this subject.
Q: What advice would you give to someone getting started in your field?
A:
- Love what you do. Otherwise, it’s just a job, not a career.
- Learn to accept all feedback, even constructive criticism.
- Maintain a work-life balance. Healthy boundaries keep you from burning out.
- Don’t be afraid of failure.
Q: If you weren’t working in IT, what alternative career path would you have pursued?
A: If I were able to have a do-over in life, I would be a Private Eye.
Q: What do you do in your free time?
A: Gardening, cooking and baking, reading, waterfall hikes, and being outside with nature.
