We sat down with Taylor and asked him a few questions we thought our clients and partners would like to know:
Q: How did you get to where you are today in your career?
A: It’s been a winding road! I got interested in computers way back in elementary school, starting with a book on HTML and how to make websites. That interest never really went away and stuck with me, even as I shifted into the service and sales industries. I eventually moved into web and software development before returning to the IT world.
Q: What do you prefer to work on?
A: I like variety, but if I had to pick, I’d say data recovery. I love witnessing the relief someone feels when they recover a file they thought was lost—especially if it was important!
Q: What’s the most unusual or interesting tech problem you’ve ever had to solve?
A: It’s hard to pinpoint one in particular, but the most interesting problems are the ones with multiple layers. You start with one issue, but it turns into a troubleshooting roller coaster as you uncover more problems hidden underneath.
Q: What’s the most unexpected thing you’ve learned while working in IT?
A: How massive the furnaces are in aluminum manufacturing.
Q: How do you stay updated with the ever-evolving technology landscape?
A: Blogs, articles, and videos. My son is also exploring the IT path, so sometimes I hear about the new “cool stuff” through him.
Q: What is your favorite tech tool or trend you’d recommend to everyone?
A: I was anti-AI for a while, but I’ve since discovered some really cool ways it can help with a wide variety of tasks.
Q: What’s your go-to tech gadget or app that you can’t live without?
A: Is it wrong to say my phone? Mainly, I use it to coordinate the chaos of being everywhere for my kids’ activities!
Q: What’s your approach when advising clients on technological solutions?
A: Listen first and understand their individual needs. A simple solution is often the best.
Q: What advice would you give to businesses who need IT support?
A: Trust and communication are vital to a functional IT relationship. We don’t expect a business to know everything they need in terms of support, but if you can clearly communicate the problems you’re experiencing or the changes you’d like to see, you should be able to trust your IT team to handle it.
Q: What advice would you give to someone getting started in your field?
A: Before implementing a solution, take a step back and make sure you have all the information you need. Sometimes the smallest detail is the key to fixing something!
Q: If you weren’t working in IT, what alternative career path would you have pursued?
A: Probably the food service industry—something small like a food truck or a cozy restaurant. There’s something special about bringing people together through good food.
Q: What do you do in your free time?
A: I’m a nerd at heart, so I love all kinds of gaming—from tabletop and board games to PC and consoles. I also play the drums, so a lot of weekends are filled with gigs. When I’m not doing that, I’m usually relaxing, watching hockey or football, playing golf, or hanging out with family!
